Egypt T-bill auction, 21 April 2009: 364-day at 10.49%, down 8 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 21 April 2009, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 10.58% (down 12 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 10.49% (down 8 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 10.4bn against EGP 6.0bn on offer, 173% of the amount sought, and EGP 6.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 7.40% to 14.80%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 8.16%, so the government is paying 233 basis points more than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 110,486 after 12 months: EGP 10,486 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 874 a month.
