Egypt T-bill auction, 27 January 2009: 91-day at 11.37%, up 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 27 January 2009, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.37% (up 2 basis points) and the 182-day bill at 11.46% (up 3 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 6.1bn against EGP 4.0bn on offer, 152% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 91-day rate has ranged from 4.91% to 14.03%.
A year earlier the 91-day bill cleared at 6.34%, so the government is paying 503 basis points more than twelve months ago.
