Egypt T-bill auction, 7 October 2008: 364-day at 14.59%, up 25 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 7 October 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 14.20% (up 40 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 14.59% (up 25 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 7.6bn against EGP 5.0bn on offer, 153% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.62% to 14.80%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.46%, so the government is paying 713 basis points more than twelve months ago.
