Egypt T-bill auction, 30 September 2008: 364-day at 14.34%, down 46 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 September 2008, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 13.50% (down 53 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.80% (down 18 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 14.34% (down 46 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 17.6bn against EGP 6.0bn on offer, 293% of the amount sought, and EGP 6.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.62% to 14.80%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.44%, so the government is paying 691 basis points more than twelve months ago.
