Egypt T-bill auction, 4 September 2007: 364-day at 8.38%, up 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 September 2007, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 7.85% (up 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.22% (down 4 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.38% (up 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 14.6bn against EGP 5.5bn on offer, 265% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 7.45% to 10.21%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 9.24%, so the government is paying 87 basis points less than twelve months ago.
