Egypt T-bill auction, 24 January 2006: 364-day at 8.64%, down 5 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 January 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 8.17% (down 42 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.64% (down 5 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 7.9bn against EGP 2.0bn on offer, 396% of the amount sought, and EGP 2.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.17% to 11.07%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.68%, so the government is paying 204 basis points less than twelve months ago.
