Egypt T-bill auction, 17 January 2006: 364-day at 8.69%, down 8 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 17 January 2006, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 8.54% (down 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.60% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 8.69% (down 8 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 11.0bn against EGP 4.5bn on offer, 245% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.17% to 11.07%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.68%, so the government is paying 199 basis points less than twelve months ago.
