Egypt T-bill auction, 12 July 2005: 364-day at 8.17%, down 22 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 12 July 2005, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 8.58% (up 72 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.17% (down 22 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 4.4bn against EGP 1.9bn on offer, 229% of the amount sought, and EGP 1.9bn was accepted.
At 8.17%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 34 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.67%, so the government is paying 349 basis points less than twelve months ago.
