Egypt T-bill auction, 1 February 2005: 364-day at 10.16%, down 32 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 February 2005, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 182-day bill at 9.42% (down 27 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 10.16% (down 32 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 6.6bn against EGP 2.0bn on offer, 331% of the amount sought, and EGP 2.0bn was accepted.
At 10.16%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 20 auctions of the past year.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
