Kenya bond auction, 17 August 2026: IFB1/2019/016 at 12.196%
The Central Bank of Kenya's bond auction dated 17 August 2026 was a re-opening of IFB1/2019/016, IFB1/2021/018 and IFB1/2021/021.
Bids came to KES 460.4bn against KES 150.0bn on offer (307% subscribed), and the Treasury accepted KES 312.0bn.
IFB1/2019/016 cleared at 12.196%, against a 11.750% coupon, with 9.1 years to maturity. Its previous sale, on 28 October 2019, priced at 12.394%, so the yield is down 20 basis points.
IFB1/2021/018 cleared at 12.688%, against a 12.667% coupon, with 12.6 years to maturity. Its previous sale, on 12 April 2021, priced at 12.667%, so the yield is up 2 basis points.
IFB1/2021/021 cleared at 13.052%, against a 12.737% coupon, with 16.0 years to maturity. Its previous sale, on 13 September 2021, priced at 12.737%, so the yield is up 31 basis points.

At this auction KES 100,000 of face value cost about KES 101,878 (price 101.878 per 100), and the yield that implies is 12.20% a year. The coupon is 11.75%: KES 11,750 a year on KES 100,000 of face value, paid in two halves, with no withholding tax on an infrastructure bond.
