Uganda T-bill auction, 10 May 2018: 364-day at 9.86%, up 83 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 10 May 2018, the Bank of Uganda cleared the 91-day bill at 8.47% (up 18 basis points), the 182-day bill at 9.19% (up 95 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.86% (up 83 basis points). The rate shown is the money-market yield at the cut-off price.
Demand was strong: bids totalled UGX 299.2bn against UGX 175.0bn on offer, 171% of the amount sought, and UGX 175.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 9.04% to 11.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.87%, so the government is paying 400 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put UGX 10,000,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back UGX 10,986,400 after 12 months: UGX 986,400 in interest before any withholding tax, about UGX 82,200 a month.
