Tanzania T-bill auction, 14 February 2024: 364-day at 12.20%, down 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 14 February 2024, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.43% (down 7 basis points), the 182-day bill at 8.97% (down 33 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.20% (down 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 391.0bn against TZS 77.5bn on offer, 505% of the amount sought, and TZS 262.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 6.56% to 12.22%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.20%, so the government is paying 500 basis points more than twelve months ago.
