Tanzania T-bill auction, 11 October 2023: 364-day at 8.63%, up 52 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 11 October 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 7.56% (up 22 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.63% (up 52 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 133.6bn against TZS 124.6bn on offer, 107% of the amount sought, and TZS 133.6bn was accepted.
At 8.63%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 20 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 5.12%, so the government is paying 351 basis points more than twelve months ago.
