Tanzania T-bill auction, 22 March 2023: 364-day at 6.56%, down 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 22 March 2023, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.00% (up 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 5.09% (up 3 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.56% (down 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 222.8bn against TZS 167.0bn on offer, 133% of the amount sought, and TZS 222.8bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 3.19% to 7.20%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 4.55%, so the government is paying 201 basis points more than twelve months ago.
