Tanzania T-bill auction, 20 April 2022: 364-day at 3.19%, down 42 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 20 April 2022, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.65% (down 14 basis points), the 182-day bill at 3.32% (down 9 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 3.19% (down 42 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 227.0bn against TZS 77.4bn on offer, 293% of the amount sought, and TZS 64.7bn was accepted.
At 3.19%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.01%, so the government is paying 281 basis points less than twelve months ago.
