Tanzania T-bill auction, 1 April 2020: 364-day at 4.87%, down 19 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 1 April 2020, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 4.14% (down 6 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 4.87% (down 19 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 50.1bn against TZS 104.5bn on offer, 48% of the amount sought, and TZS 47.6bn was accepted.
At 4.87%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 9.14%, so the government is paying 427 basis points less than twelve months ago.
