Tanzania T-bill auction, 15 May 2019: 364-day at 9.06%, up 5 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 15 May 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 4.13% (up 4 basis points), the 182-day bill at 5.10% (up 2 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 9.06% (up 5 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled TZS 171.3bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 122% of the amount sought, and TZS 119.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 5.48% to 9.35%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 4.12%, so the government is paying 494 basis points more than twelve months ago.
