Tanzania T-bill auction, 6 March 2019: 364-day at 9.17%, down 10 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 6 March 2019, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 5.21% (up 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 9.17% (down 10 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 217.4bn against TZS 137.0bn on offer, 159% of the amount sought, and TZS 170.6bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.12% to 9.35%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 6.25%, so the government is paying 292 basis points more than twelve months ago.
