Tanzania T-bill auction, 3 October 2018: 364-day at 7.97%, up 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 3 October 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 2.98% (down 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 4.98% (down 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.97% (up 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 130.5bn against TZS 140.0bn on offer, 93% of the amount sought, and TZS 97.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 4.12% to 10.24%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.21%, so the government is paying 324 basis points less than twelve months ago.
