Tanzania T-bill auction, 10 January 2018: 364-day at 7.65%, down 78 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 10 January 2018, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 3.75% (down 25 basis points), the 182-day bill at 4.37% (down 98 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 7.65% (down 78 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 275.2bn against TZS 118.0bn on offer, 233% of the amount sought, and TZS 118.0bn was accepted.
At 7.65%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.79%, so the government is paying 813 basis points less than twelve months ago.
