Tanzania T-bill auction, 17 May 2017: 364-day at 10.68%, down 172 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 17 May 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 6.98% (down 10 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.13% (down 81 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 10.68% (down 172 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 394.9bn against TZS 138.5bn on offer, 285% of the amount sought, and TZS 138.5bn was accepted.
At 10.68%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.93%, so the government is paying 525 basis points less than twelve months ago.
