Tanzania T-bill auction, 19 April 2017: 364-day at 13.56%, down 91 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 April 2017, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 182-day bill at 12.77% (down 51 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.56% (down 91 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled TZS 505.5bn against TZS 134.5bn on offer, 376% of the amount sought, and TZS 134.5bn was accepted.
At 13.56%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 26 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 16.63%, so the government is paying 307 basis points less than twelve months ago.
