Tanzania T-bill auction, 20 April 2016: 364-day at 16.62%, down 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 20 April 2016, the Bank of Tanzania cleared the 91-day bill at 8.01% (down 27 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.60% (down 37 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 16.62% (down 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of successful bids.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled TZS 114.9bn against TZS 132.0bn on offer, 87% of the amount sought, and TZS 113.9bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.92% to 18.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.37%, so the government is paying 625 basis points more than twelve months ago.
