At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 March 2024, the South African Reserve Bank cleared the 91-day bill at 8.43% (down 4 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 8.16% (down 3 basis points). The rate shown is the average rate at which bills are allotted in the weekly auction.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 7.40% to 8.72%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.46%, so the government is paying 70 basis points more than twelve months ago.
