At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 January 2020, the South African Reserve Bank cleared the 91-day bill at 6.61% (down 12 basis points), the 182-day bill at 6.80% (down 18 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 6.73% (down 18 basis points). The rate shown is the average rate at which bills are allotted in the weekly auction.
At 6.73%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 48 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 7.46%, so the government is paying 73 basis points less than twelve months ago.
