At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 January 2009, the South African Reserve Bank cleared the 91-day bill at 10.10% (down 42 basis points) and the 182-day bill at 9.10% (down 24 basis points). The rate shown is the average rate at which bills are allotted in the weekly auction.
Over the past year the 91-day rate has ranged from 10.04% to 11.66%.
A year earlier the 91-day bill cleared at 10.37%, so the government is paying 27 basis points less than twelve months ago.
