Nigeria T-bill auction, 21 February 2024: 364-day at 19.00%, unchanged
At the Treasury bill auction dated 21 February 2024, the Central Bank of Nigeria set stop rates on the 91-day bill at 17.00% (down 24 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.50% (down 50 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 19.00% (unchanged). The rate shown is the stop (issue) rate at the primary auction.
Demand was strong: bids totalled NGN 2237.9bn against NGN 265.5bn on offer, 843% of the amount sought, and NGN 1589.3bn was accepted.
At 19.00%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 28 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 2.24%, so the government is paying 1676 basis points more than twelve months ago.
