Mozambique T-bill auction, 21 February 2024: 364-day at 18.30%, down 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 21 February 2024, the Banco de Moçambique cleared the 91-day bill at 17.66% (down 11 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.10% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 18.30% (down 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average subscription rate.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled MZN 2.3bn against MZN 3.3bn on offer, 69% of the amount sought, and MZN 2.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 17.80% to 19.05%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 17.80%, so the government is paying 50 basis points more than twelve months ago.

Put MZN 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back MZN 118,300 after 12 months: MZN 18,300 in interest before any withholding tax, about MZN 1,525 a month.
