Mozambique T-bill auction, 30 August 2023: 364-day at 17.85%, up 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 30 August 2023, the Banco de Moçambique cleared the 91-day bill at 17.85% (up 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.83% (up 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 17.85% (up 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average subscription rate.
The auction was undersubscribed: bids totalled MZN 3.6bn against MZN 8.0bn on offer, 45% of the amount sought, and MZN 3.6bn was accepted.
At 17.85%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 25 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.53%, so the government is paying 232 basis points more than twelve months ago.
