Mozambique T-bill auction, 24 January 2018: 364-day at 21.78%, down 117 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 24 January 2018, the Banco de Moçambique cleared the 364-day bill at 21.78% (down 117 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average subscription rate.

Demand was strong: bids totalled MZN 2.7bn against MZN 1.5bn on offer, 182% of the amount sought, and MZN 1.5bn was accepted.

At 21.78%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 42 auctions of the past year.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 28.84%, so the government is paying 706 basis points less than twelve months ago.
