At the Treasury bill auction dated 5 May 2020, the Reserve Bank of Malawi cleared the 91-day bill at 7.58% (unchanged) and the 364-day bill at 12.69% (up 43 basis points). The rate shown is the average yield of allotted bids.
Bids totalled MWK 2.9bn and MWK 2.9bn was accepted, 100% of what was bid.
At 12.69%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 33 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.48%, so the government is paying 221 basis points more than twelve months ago.
