Malawi T-bill auction, 28 January 2020: 364-day at 10.89%, up 289 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 28 January 2020, the Reserve Bank of Malawi cleared the 91-day bill at 6.15% (down 14 basis points), the 182-day bill at 10.00% (up 254 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 10.89% (up 289 basis points). The rate shown is the average yield of allotted bids.

Bids totalled MWK 18.3bn and MWK 8.8bn was accepted, 48% of what was bid.

Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 8.00% to 11.50%.

A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 14.00%, so the government is paying 311 basis points less than twelve months ago.
