At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 April 2017, the Reserve Bank of Malawi cleared the 182-day bill at 22.45% (up 45 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 23.31% (up 31 basis points). The rate shown is the average yield of allotted bids.
Bids totalled MWK 10.7bn and MWK 10.7bn was accepted, 100% of what was bid.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 23.00% to 29.00%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 28.46%, so the government is paying 515 basis points less than twelve months ago.
