Ghana T-bill auction, 6 April 2020: 91-day at 14.44%, down 20 bps

At the Treasury bill auction dated 6 April 2020, the Bank of Ghana cleared the 91-day bill at 14.44% (down 20 basis points) and the 182-day bill at 14.95% (down 20 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average interest-rate equivalent.

Bids totalled GHS 521m and GHS 488m was accepted, 94% of what was bid.

At 14.44%, the 91-day rate is the lowest in the 47 auctions of the past year.

A year earlier the 91-day bill cleared at 14.73%, so the government is paying 29 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put GHS 10,000 into the 182-day bill at this auction and you get back GHS 10,748 after 6 months: GHS 748 in interest before any withholding tax, about GHS 125 a month.
