Egypt T-bill auction, 4 February 2025: 364-day at 25.34%, up 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 February 2025, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 26.89% (up 5 basis points), the 182-day bill at 26.86% (up 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 25.34% (up 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 323.9bn against EGP 105.0bn on offer, 308% of the amount sought, and EGP 57.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 25.27% to 32.30%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 27.69%, so the government is paying 235 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 125,336 after 12 months: EGP 25,336 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 2,111 a month.

For shorter money: EGP 13,429 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 6,723 on the 91-day bill (3 months).
The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
