Egypt T-bill auction, 2 January 2024: 364-day at 27.61%, up 14 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 2 January 2024, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 25.68% (up 6 basis points), the 182-day bill at 25.95% (up 15 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 27.61% (up 14 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 108.1bn against EGP 100.0bn on offer, 108% of the amount sought, and EGP 58.8bn was accepted.
At 27.61%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 18.87%, so the government is paying 873 basis points more than twelve months ago.
