Egypt T-bill auction, 4 April 2023: 364-day at 22.68%, up 14 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 April 2023, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 20.92% (down 4 basis points), the 182-day bill at 22.58% (down 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 22.68% (up 14 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 76.9bn against EGP 62.0bn on offer, 124% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.9bn was accepted.
At 22.68%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.39%, so the government is paying 929 basis points more than twelve months ago.
