Egypt T-bill auction, 27 December 2022: 364-day at 18.87%, up 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 27 December 2022, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.09% (up 2 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.67% (down 3 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.87% (up 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
The auction was fully subscribed: bids totalled EGP 49.5bn against EGP 34.5bn on offer, 144% of the amount sought, and EGP 5.0bn was accepted.
At 18.87%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.24%, so the government is paying 563 basis points more than twelve months ago.
