Egypt T-bill auction, 6 December 2022: 364-day at 18.75%, up 9 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 6 December 2022, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.03% (unchanged), the 182-day bill at 18.61% (up 9 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 18.75% (up 9 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 173.8bn against EGP 33.5bn on offer, 519% of the amount sought, and EGP 91.4bn was accepted.
At 18.75%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.33%, so the government is paying 541 basis points more than twelve months ago.
