Egypt T-bill auction, 10 August 2021: 364-day at 13.26%, up 1 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 10 August 2021, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 12.99% (up 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.14% (down 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 13.26% (up 1 basis point). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 68.2bn against EGP 26.5bn on offer, 257% of the amount sought, and EGP 37.7bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.67% to 13.84%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 13.69%, so the government is paying 43 basis points less than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 113,256 after 12 months: EGP 13,256 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 1,105 a month.
