Egypt T-bill auction, 17 September 2019: 364-day at 15.88%, down 31 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 17 September 2019, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 16.22% (down 39 basis points), the 182-day bill at 16.38% (down 18 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.88% (down 31 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 73.1bn against EGP 28.3bn on offer, 259% of the amount sought, and EGP 30.5bn was accepted.
At 15.88%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 19.25%, so the government is paying 337 basis points less than twelve months ago.
