Egypt T-bill auction, 19 March 2019: 364-day at 17.51%, down 10 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 19 March 2019, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 17.46% (down 17 basis points), the 182-day bill at 17.61% (down 14 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.51% (down 10 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 53.6bn against EGP 26.5bn on offer, 202% of the amount sought, and EGP 27.1bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 16.55% to 19.98%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 16.59%, so the government is paying 92 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
