Egypt T-bill auction, 4 September 2018: 364-day at 19.19%, up 10 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 4 September 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 19.18% (up 12 basis points), the 182-day bill at 19.36% (up 13 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 19.19% (up 10 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 42.9bn against EGP 25.0bn on offer, 172% of the amount sought, and EGP 25.4bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 16.43% to 19.44%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 19.02%, so the government is paying 17 basis points more than twelve months ago.

Put EGP 100,000 into the 364-day bill at this auction and you get back EGP 119,187 after 12 months: EGP 19,187 in interest before any withholding tax, about EGP 1,599 a month.

For shorter money: EGP 9,681 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 4,795 on the 91-day bill (3 months).
The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
