Egypt T-bill auction, 23 January 2018: 364-day at 17.48%, down 7 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 23 January 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 18.36% (down 3 basis points), the 182-day bill at 18.41% (down 19 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 17.48% (down 7 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 54.6bn against EGP 20.5bn on offer, 266% of the amount sought, and EGP 22.7bn was accepted.
At 17.48%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 52 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 20.11%, so the government is paying 263 basis points less than twelve months ago.
