Egypt T-bill auction, 11 October 2016: 364-day at 16.44%, up 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 11 October 2016, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 14.51% (down 9 basis points), the 182-day bill at 15.76% (up 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 16.44% (up 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 28.1bn against EGP 17.3bn on offer, 163% of the amount sought, and EGP 17.3bn was accepted.
At 16.44%, the 364-day rate is the highest in the 29 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.94%, so the government is paying 450 basis points more than twelve months ago.
