Egypt T-bill auction, 14 October 2014: 364-day at 12.35%, down 2 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 14 October 2014, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.56% (up 1 basis point), the 182-day bill at 12.06% (up 1 basis point) and the 364-day bill at 12.35% (down 2 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 18.8bn against EGP 9.5bn on offer, 198% of the amount sought, and EGP 9.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.74% to 12.52%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 11.29%, so the government is paying 106 basis points more than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
