Egypt T-bill auction, 17 September 2013: 364-day at 11.54%, down 89 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 17 September 2013, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 10.69% (down 81 basis points), the 182-day bill at 11.30% (down 90 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 11.54% (down 89 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 22.0bn against EGP 8.5bn on offer, 259% of the amount sought, and EGP 8.5bn was accepted.
At 11.54%, the 364-day rate is the lowest in the 50 auctions of the past year.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.75%, so the government is paying 421 basis points less than twelve months ago.

For shorter money: EGP 5,650 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 2,672 on the 91-day bill (3 months).
The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
