Egypt T-bill auction, 18 December 2012: 364-day at 13.62%, down 13 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 18 December 2012, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 12.98% (down 26 basis points), the 182-day bill at 13.38% (down 13 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 13.62% (down 13 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 18.9bn against EGP 8.0bn on offer, 236% of the amount sought, and EGP 8.0bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.90% to 15.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 15.19%, so the government is paying 157 basis points less than twelve months ago.

The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
