Egypt T-bill auction, 3 April 2012: 364-day at 15.71%, down 6 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 3 April 2012, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 14.01% (up 17 basis points), the 182-day bill at 14.83% (up 3 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 15.71% (down 6 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 15.3bn against EGP 8.5bn on offer, 180% of the amount sought, and EGP 8.5bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 12.51% to 15.97%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 12.39%, so the government is paying 331 basis points more than twelve months ago.

For shorter money: EGP 7,415 on the 182-day bill (6 months), EGP 3,502 on the 91-day bill (3 months).
The government pays the full amount at maturity; the risk is Egypt’s government not paying, and the money is locked until then.
