Egypt T-bill auction, 16 August 2011: 364-day at 12.98%, up 4 bps
At the Treasury bill auction dated 16 August 2011, the Central Bank of Egypt cleared the 91-day bill at 11.91% (down 9 basis points), the 182-day bill at 12.47% (down 5 basis points) and the 364-day bill at 12.98% (up 4 basis points). The rate shown is the weighted average yield of accepted bids.
Demand was strong: bids totalled EGP 10.2bn against EGP 5.5bn on offer, 185% of the amount sought, and EGP 4.3bn was accepted.
Over the past year the 364-day rate has ranged from 10.25% to 12.98%.
A year earlier the 364-day bill cleared at 10.38%, so the government is paying 260 basis points more than twelve months ago.
